rec centerAbundant recreational opportunities contribute greatly to Livonia's premier quality of life forfamilies and individuals. The city has set aside 1400 acres for recreation and has a brand new 130,000 square foot community recreation center, along with many other recreational venues.

Livonia Community Recreation Center
Built as a testament to Livonia's strong commitment to families and fun and envisioned as a catalyst for the growth of community, the Livonia Community Recreation Center offers recreational activities for residents of all ages, all fitness levels, and to all who want to recreate in a lively and inviting environment.
Built in 2003 from a $30 million dollarbond issue, the center creates an affordable recreational facility for residents.

The center includes two indoor pools with a 250 footwaterslide, 27,000 square feet of gymnasium, a fitness hub with training equipment, an indoor track, a 40 feet high by 36 feet wide climbing wall, aerobics room, party rooms, game room, giant indoor play structure, 14,000 square feet skate board park, two sand volleyball courts and an 8,600 square feet gymnastics area. There issomething for everyone in the family at the Livonia Community Recreation Center.



Livonia Family YMCA

Livonia Family YMCAThe Livonia Family YMCA lives up to its name by serving as a community center. Here children, parents, grandparents and teens can strengthen their spirit, mind and body in this community environment with many learning and physical activities that are offered.

The 100,000 square-foot facilities at the Livonia Family YMCA include a Wellness Center with personal trainers; no-cost child watch babysitting, the Brighthouse media room including computers, internet access, Nintendo Wii games and more. In addition, there are programs and activities in the 25-yard, six lane indoor pool; gymnastics studio, field house, indoor and outdoor tennis courts. Additional offerings include free fitness classes, specialized wellness classes, an aerobics studio, a weight room, martial arts classes, and racquetball courts. During the summer, day campers enjoy outdoor experiences on the beautifully wooded grounds of the YMCA. Facilities are available for birthday parties or other corporate and private rentals.

Livonia Junior Athletic League

Livonia Junior Athletic LeagueThis community youth athletic program provides developmental and competitive sports opportunities for more than 1,000 youngsters each year, ranging in ages from 4-18. There are 800 enrolled in the football and cheerleading programs, some 1,500 playing basketball and some 1,500, playing baseball.

The LJAL offers house and competitive travel baseball and basketball teams. The LJAL was founded in 1957 as the Livonia Junior Football League is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. For more information, e-mail: info@ljal.com or visit www.LJAL.com.



Livonia Hockey Association

Some 1,000 players and coaches are involved in the hockey program that has served Livonia for 40 years, making the LHA one of the longest, continuous-serving youth hockey organizations in Michigan.

Youngsters from ages 4-18 participate in introductory programs and form 50 teams in travel and house leagues, which play at Livonia’s Devon Aire and Eddie Edgar ice arenas. The LHA hasproduced national championship-caliber travel teams and several National Hockey League players such as Ryan Kessler, David Moss, and Craig Johnson.

Livonia City Soccer Club
Some 1,400 youngsters participate in recreation-select and premier programs offered by the Livonia City Soccer Club. This club is the result of a merger of the former Meteors program, which dates back to 1990, and the Livonia Soccer Club, which dates back to the late-1970s.

While the recreation-select teams learn the fundamentals of the game and play in a number of matches each season, the premier-level teams travel across the state for matches and travel out-of-state for some tournaments.

Golf Courses
golfYou'll have an excellent chance to test your golfing skills in Livonia, with three quality 18-hole courses to choose from. All courses are open seven days a week, April 1 - November 15, weather permitting. Resident and non-resident rates are applied throughout the season. Special rates for senior citizens and youth are available for Livonia residents only. Livonia-based businesses are entitled to "pass cards" which will allow them to golf at any one of the three city-owned courses for resident rates. All courses are open in the winter for cross-country skiing, as conditions permit.

Parks
Livonia takes great pride in the 1,342 acres of parkland throughout the city. Parks in Livonia are spacious and provide wonderful opportunities for picnics, large family gatherings or group functions. For groups over 20, the city suggests you obtain a permit to ensure the space is available. Picnic packs with volleyball nets and balls, horseshoes and bats and balls are also available for a $15 rental fee. For more information call the Parks and Recreation Department at 734-466-2410.

At the western edge of Livonia sits Newburgh Lake, a beautifully picturesque lake and park. The historic comfort station offers a paddleboat concession andhines park fishing docks during the summer. In the winter, the lake is swept for ice-skating and ice fishing. Newburgh Pointe is a beautiful area with two finger piers for fishing and a small boat launch. You can stroll around the lake on a hiking trail or ride your bike on the Hines Park Bike Path that crosses the site and connects to the I-275 bike trail.
